​Research Exchange Seminar with Prof. Oya Atalay Franck (ZHAW, Switzerland) – October 20, 2025

On October 20,2025, Prof. Oya Atalay Franck, Dean of the School of Architecture, Design and Civil Engineering at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and former President of the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE), visited the Laboratory of Architectural Planning at Hokkaido University.

The seminar was attended by Assoc. Prof. Rie NOMURA, Assist. Prof. Ken TSUBOUCHI, and the lab’s international students.

Eman Touliabah gave an introduction about the lab’s research focus and ongoing projects, followed by research presentations by Kristine Casals (Master’s student) and Eman Touliabah (PhD student).

Prof. Franck presented her university’s activities and shared insights from her research journey across Japan, highlighting contemporary approaches to architectural education and sustainability.

The event concluded with an engaging discussion on the future of architecture, interdisciplinary research, and the evolving relationship between design, education, and society.

It was an inspiring opportunity to exchange ideas and perspectives on global architectural education and research.
